There’s just something about the Lake Michigan shoreline in Southwest Michigan that never gets old. I’ve photographed seniors all over Berrien County and Van Buren County, and every single stretch of beach along this shoreline has its own personality. Some feel quiet and tucked away. Some feel windswept and dramatic. Some give classic beach town energy with boardwalks, dunes, and golden evening light that honestly looks like it belongs in a movie.
And the best part? There are so many beaches between all of these towns that it would be impossible to list them all.
That’s one of the things I love most about photographing senior sessions along the lakeshore. You can drive from New Buffalo to South Haven and constantly stumble across hidden beach access points, dune paths, tiny shoreline pull-offs, and spots locals have quietly loved forever.
These photos were taken at Weko Beach in Bridgman with my Class of 2027 senior rep team, and honestly, they perfectly capture why Southwest Michigan beaches work so well for senior pictures. The dunes, the movement from the lake, the soft neutral colors, the open shoreline… it all photographs beautifully without needing much else.
Bridgman and Weko Beach Senior Pictures

Weko Beach in Bridgman is one of my favorite locations for senior sessions because it has a little bit of everything. Open shoreline, dune grass, wooden walkways, and enough space that sessions rarely feel crowded. Even in early spring, before everything turns green, the shoreline still looks incredible. The neutral tones along Lake Michigan photograph so well, especially for seniors who want that relaxed, coastal feel without needing to travel hours away.
Bridgman also sits in such a good spot along the shoreline because you’re close to so many other beautiful beach locations throughout Southwest Michigan. It’s easy to build variety into a session without spending half the evening driving.
St. Joseph and Tiscornia Beach Senior Sessions

If you’ve lived in Southwest Michigan for any amount of time, you already know how iconic the St. Joseph shoreline is. Tiscornia Beach is one of the most popular spots for senior pictures in the area, and for good reason. Between the pier, the lighthouse views, the dunes, and the sunsets, it’s hard to take a bad photo there.
What I love most about St. Joseph senior sessions is how much variety you can get within a small area. You can start on the beach, walk toward the pier, grab some dune shots, and then head downtown for brick streets, alleyways, and that classic lake town feel. It gives seniors a gallery that feels full and layered without needing multiple locations spread far apart.
Jean Klock Park and Benton Harbor Beach Photography

Jean Klock Park in Benton Harbor has some of the prettiest open shoreline in the area. The beach itself feels expansive, and the dunes there are gorgeous in every season. It’s one of those locations that can look soft and calm one evening and dramatic and windy the next.
For seniors who want a more natural shoreline feel without quite as much foot traffic nearby, Jean Klock is always high on my list of favorite Southwest Michigan beach locations.
South Haven Senior Pictures Along Lake Michigan

South Haven has such a different feel from some of the Berrien County beaches, and that’s part of what makes it special. Places like Pilgrim Haven and South Beach have that classic West Michigan shoreline energy people picture when they think about summers on Lake Michigan.
The bluff views, winding beach paths, and softer dune areas photograph beautifully, especially during golden hour. South Haven also works really well for seniors who want beach pictures that feel slightly more laid back and coastal without losing that clean, timeless look.
New Buffalo and the Southern End of the Shoreline

New Buffalo deserves a mention too because the farther south you go along the shoreline, the more the vibe shifts a little. The beaches feel wider, the homes along the shoreline change, and everything starts leaning into that quiet beach town atmosphere people love.
Honestly, one of the coolest parts about being a Southwest Michigan senior photographer is getting to use all these different shoreline locations depending on what fits each senior best. No two beaches are exactly alike, even though they’re all connected by the same stretch of Lake Michigan.
And truly, there are dozens more beaches scattered between these towns that deserve attention too. Tiny local access points. Hidden dune paths. Beaches without signs that longtime locals have been using for years. That’s part of the magic of this area. You really can’t go wrong.
Whether we’re shooting at Weko Beach in Bridgman, along the shoreline in St. Joseph, at Jean Klock Park in Benton Harbor, or up near South Haven, the Lake Michigan coast always delivers something beautiful.
There’s a reason so many seniors choose the beach for their session every single year. Around here, it just feels like home.
